Freudenberg Politex will participate at Roof India 2014, Asia’s largest event for roofing and allied products that will take place in Chennai from May 16th to May 18th.

India’s economy, and in particular the Building Construction and Infrastructure Industry, is continuing to boom and it is in this context that Roof India Exhibition aims to provide a platform to converge companies, consultants, architects and engineers as well as to generate awareness about technological advancements, products, services and solutions for roofs.

At Roof India Freudenberg Politex will display the entire range of nonwovens used for the waterproofing of roofs. The Group is in fact world leader in the Roofing Sector where nonwovens are sold as reinforcements for bituminous waterproofing membranes. Freudenberg Politex is able to offer its customers a wide range of products, produced with recycled polyester from post-consumer PET bottles and manufactured with staple and spunbonding technology in both standards or glass filaments reinforced version.

Richard Shaw, President & CEO of the Freudenberg Politex Group states: “India is a strategic market where Freudenberg Politex has been present for many years. During this period, we have had a key role in developing and qualifying the Indian market thanks to cutting-edge technology, continuous research and added-value solutions that consequently led to the improvement of the membranes (finished products) realized by our customers”.

Federico Pallini, Business Director, continues: “We firmly believe that innovation, flexibility and adaptability are essential factors of the Group to tailor solutions to the Indian market requirements and to customers”.

The Company with headquarters in Italy at Novedrate (Como) has a commercial office in India at Bangalore which promotes Freudenberg Politex’s activities for the development of the Indian market.

Price increase in March

Already starting from the last months of 2012, the pressure from raw materials price increase has become more and more evident strongly impacting on purchase costs and consequently on the industry sustainability.

PET chips prices have been on the move since the summer of 2012 pushed upwards by rising production costs, derived by low production capacity exploitations, and by the continuous increase of PX (parxylene) and MEG (monoethylene glycol).

The crisis has impacted the industry, not only depressing the construction activity, but also reducing consumer's spending and therefore creating shortage of waste material such as post consumer bottles, which for Freudenberg Politex represent a crucial raw material.

Not to forget the utilities tariffs, constantly increasing despite the continuous negotiations and the long term investments pursued by the Group during last years in order to decrease the dependence from external suppliers (i.e. cogeneration).

Freudenberg Politex has been putting in place every effort to mitigate the effect of these increases through productivity improvements and efficiencies at all manufacturing facilities, but based on current market conditions this is not sufficient.

Though understanding the difficulties of customers, who are facing the same difficult market situation, Freudenberg Politex is obliged to pass a portion of this cost revising the sale prices of its products.

Unfortunately this scenario forces the Group to apply a sale prices increase in the range from 5% to 7% for the different products, from March 15th 2013. Freudenberg Politex asks its customers the effort to face together the new challenges of 2013.

Environmental stewardship rewards Freudenberg Politex

LCA supports the benefits of carbon footprint reduction programs

Today most industries strive for sustainaility. Nonwovens producers are switching to recycled raw materials, however at Freudenberg Politex we believe that recycling is not enough. Since the early 90s we have been pioneers in producing in-house polyester fiber from post-consumer PET bottles, which was our competitive strength for going green. Our continuous efforts in improving our environmental impacts have gone much further since then.

Today we are very proud of communicating the results of the LCA studies recently concluded in Italy and France: in just one year we have been able to reduce our Carbon Footprint by 5%, that corresponds to a reduction of 4.800 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Our comprehensive strategy for sustainable development is made of different activities and specific improvement targets in the different areas of our supply chain: from the intensive research on renewable resources and raw material consumption to processes optimization and waste reduction programs, from energy efficiency and water management to continuous research on raw materials as well as on finished products optimization. Here below a couple of concrete results achieved and measured with the yearly monitoring of LCA:

- In Novedrate the CO2 emissions of the reinforced staple nonwovens decreased by 3%, reaching outstanding levels thanks to its being 85% made of renewable resources. These savings are added to the 14.000 tons already avoided every year only in Novedrate site, thanks to the internal production of electric and thermal energy through cogeneration;

- in Pisticci the consumption of non-renewable resources for the reinforced staple nonwovens Terbond R decreased by 40%, thanks to the increased use of renewable resources and to a greener energy mix supplied by the local provider;

- in Colmar the zero landfill program brought in 2011 a reduction of waste sent to landfill by more than 60% vs. the previous year: today more than two-thirds of waste are sent to recovery/recycling or to energy valorization.

Also in Freudenberg Politex plants in Macon (USA) and Zavolzhie (Russia) additional programs for waste reduction through recycling and valorization are contributing to pursue the Group's sustainability goals.

In the year of our 40th anniversary and 20 years from the first recycling plant, we are happy to say that Freudenberg Politex Building ReEvolution continues!

Ecozero conquers Paris

Ecozero conquers Paris
The environmentally friendly panels exhibited at ALTER-ECO

Until October 26th Ecozero®, the recycled polyester altereco_stand.jpgpanels for thermal and acoustic insulation made by Freudenberg Politex will be displayed at the Technological Institute FCBA in Paris during the exhibition "ALTER-ECO, alternative materials for eco-design".

The exhibition, organized by the centre Innovathèque, aims at suggesting eco sustainable solutions to architects and designers presenting products and services belonging to four different categories. Freudenberg Politex is present with Ecozero®, the environmentally friendly material made of polyester recycled from post-consumer PET bottles.

The sustainability of Ecozero® is not only given by its recycled content, which in itself implies a significant reduction of the environmental impacts during the manufacturing phase. The use of Ecozero® in external walls or in the roofs provides excellent thermal insulating properties contributing to the energy efficiency of buildings. In addition, unlike other insulating materials, Ecozero® is not subject to any alteration over time and therefore it grants constant performances all over its life cycle, including the possibility of being reused or recycled for other purposes.

This 360° virtuous life cycle has conquered Paris obtaining the prestigious position within the exhibition ALTER-ECO.

Freudenberg Politex presents “The green soul of the city”

Fiera Milano, Rho
5-8 October 2011
Pav. 4, Booth N23 - P20

For Freudenberg Politex "Cities have a soul" and at MADE Expo, the International building exhibition in Milan, the Group will demonstrate how the soul of the city can be green, in principle as well as in reality.anima_verde_citta_en.JPG

Visitors of the booth will be able to see the green city live, built with Ecozero, thermal-acoustic insulation panels. Made of polyester recycled from post-consume PET bottle, the city will be built on a bed of flakes, the multicolored chips obtained from bottles washing, which are then transformed into polyester fiber, absolutely non-toxic and environmental friendly.

Freudenberg Politex is the major manufacturer of products in Europe for the construction industry made by recycling those plastics bottles we throw away every day in the waste containers. And at MADE Expo the Group will explain how in our Italian sites over 1 billion bottles per year are transformed into panels for thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings. But how many bottles do we need to manufacture one panel of Ecozero? Visitors of the stand will be able to read on bottles of water the answer to this interesting question.

And there is more: not only does Freudenberg Politex help the environment with its recycling processes, but the downstream use of Ecozero panels for thermal insulation of walls and rooftops makes energy efficient buildings, what contributes further to the reduction of environmental impacts.

The green soul of the city is Ecozero, green in principle as well as green in reality.
